Cobi steam locomotive BR 52 / 2505 pcs. DR series 52 (civil)

The steam locomotives of the 52 series are the best-known so-called war locomotives of the German Reichsbahn. From 1942 onwards, more than 7000 of them were built, and in 1943 on some days as many as 50. The BR 52 was more uniformly constructed and consisted of fewer parts than previous models. It was to be manufactured as quickly as possible with minimal material expenditure and from fewer parts, and also to be able to withstand the extreme temperatures of a Russian winter. Originally designed for a maximum service life of 10 years, individual machines were ultimately used for 50 years or more. The locomotive had a completely enclosed driver's cab (Norwegian cab) and a tub tender adapted for this series with a capacity of 30 m3 of water and 10 t of coal. This locomotive was also in use in various countries after the Second World War. The model presented here is the civilian version of the BR 52. In the Federal Republic of Germany it was not used on a scheduled basis until 1989.
