The Dewoitine D.520, named after its developer Émile Dewoitine, was the most advanced fighter aircraft of the French Air Force that entered combat service at the beginning of World War II. Although it was slightly inferior in speed to the German Messerschmitt Bf 109, it made up for this shortcoming with its maneuverability and their climbing and descending abilities.
