The British Mark I from the First World War (1914-1918) is generally regarded as the first functional tank in history. It owes its existence primarily to the suggestions of Sir Ernest Dunlop Swinton, a high-ranking officer, and to the military-political protection of the then Navy Minister Sir Winston Churchill, who took the new vehicle under his wing as a 'land ship'. The male version of the Mark I was used as a machine gun and artillery carrier, while the female version was a pure machine gun carrier and was used as an escort against enemy infantry. It was first used on September 15, 1916 in the Battle of the Somme near Flers. Many of the 49 vehicles were lost to enemy artillery fire or were captured by the Germans and later used against the Allies. Today, there is exactly one example left, the C.19 tank, which is on display in the British Tank Museum in Bovington. Model with 878 parts, 1 mini-figure, printed blocks and movable elements. Model dimensions (LxWxH): 28 x 13 x 9 cm
