The Sd.Kfz. 234 armored reconnaissance vehicle was a heavy eight-wheel armored reconnaissance vehicle and was built in 4 variants, all of which had the same compact design with a monocoque, all-wheel drive and steering, and the 12-cylinder diesel engine from the Czechoslovakian Tatra 111 truck. The 234/3 version was equipped with the short 7.5 cm 37 L/24 combat vehicle cannon (known by the troops as the 'stub') and a swiveling MG 42 as a secondary weapon. Also notable about the Sd.Kfz. 234 was the second rear-facing driver's seat and a gearbox with 6 forward and reverse gears, which enabled a very quick change of direction.
