Due to climate change, we are being forced to switch our energy supply from nuclear power or fossil energy to renewable energy production in order to release as little CO2 as possible into the atmosphere. In order for future energy production to be climate-neutral, investments must be made in research and development and in a modern power grid. In Future Energy, you shut down the old power plants (nuclear power, oil, natural gas and coal) in the various European countries and replace them with modern renewable power plants (fusion, wind, solar and hydrogen). For each old power plant that is shut down, you receive bonuses that help you to advance the expansion of the power lines. By planning ahead, you receive more money and CO2 certificates. These help you to acquire further construction contracts for new power plants. In addition, you must invest in your own power lines between the modern power plants. In return, however, you receive transmission fees when others use your power grid. Anyone who expands their power grid, builds power plants in as many European regions as possible and cleverly connects them through their power grid will receive more CO2 certificates at the end of the game. The player with the most victory points is the winner!
