Schleich African Elephant Baby

Newborn baby elephants already weigh 100 kilograms and are 90 centimeters tall. After half an hour, they can stand on their own two feet and walk with the herd. Baby elephants are still quite clumsy after birth and must first learn how to use their trunks. They cannot feed themselves with their trunks and are suckled by their mother for the first year. They gain a good kilo in weight every day. It is very important that they grow quickly, because a lion or crocodile can hardly harm adult, healthy animals. If a predator does come dangerously close, the adults form a circle around the young. They are well protected in the middle. A baby elephant falls a good 70 centimeters when it is born. But nothing happens to it.
