From the cool, Nordic Friesland comes a horse that is as noble as the fiery Andalusian: the Friesian. It has a silky, flowing mane and a particularly beautiful, long tail. The Friesian is a cross between Dutch cold-blooded horses and thoroughbred Spanish horses. With its noble blood, it is not surprising that it likes to carry its head proudly and high. The Friesian also lifts its knees higher than other horse breeds during its sweeping movements. This is why the Friesian is particularly popular as a dressage horse. Friesians are bred exclusively as black horses and are not allowed to have any white markings on their coats. However, they only acquire their jet black colour over the years. The foals are always brown when they are born. The Friesian horse is one of the oldest horse breeds in Europe. It has been around since Roman times.
