Why do giraffes have spots? For such large animals, it seems hard to imagine that they serve as camouflage. But it's true: from a distance, they make giraffes look like a large tree. Despite the camouflaging spots on their fur, giraffes do not always remain undetected by predators. But they know how to defend themselves by kicking hard with their front hooves. They do this especially when they want to protect their young, because adult animals are rarely attacked. Anyone who has the opportunity to look at giraffes up close can easily distinguish females from males. They are slightly smaller and have thin horns with small tufts of fur. Male giraffes, on the other hand, have thick horns that are hairless at the tip. A healthy, adult giraffe can kill a lion with a single, powerful kick.
