In 1812, the breeding of the Knabstrupper breed began with the Flaebe mare, who was used for breeding after several other mares were purchased in Knabstrupgaard in Denmark. Knabstruppers are characterized primarily by their tiger-spotted coloring and are divided into three types: Pony, Baroque and Sport, each of which has its own qualities. All Knabstruppers are valued for their robustness and good nature.
