The cows are well looked after in the fenced-off pasture. At the end of the day, the farmer comes to pick them up again. He opens the large gate and drives them back into the warm stable. The farmer has put up a new, sturdy fence. But be careful: if the door is not closed properly, the cows can escape unnoticed. Some breeds are known as real escape artists and use their tongues to open the latches on gates. As clumsy and ponderous as they may look, cows hop effortlessly over pasture fences and have escaped this way many times. They cannot jump from a standing position, but with a little momentum they can manage a big hop. Cows can jump 1.8 meters high if they run fast enough and then make a big leap.
